TULSA, Okla. – Tulsa Roughnecks FC announced on Thursday that defender Jorge Corrales had signed with the club’s Major League Soccer partner the Chicago Fire. Corrales is signed through the 2018 season with club options for 2019 and 2020. The Cuban international will remain with the Roughnecks on loan as the Fire retain the right to recall Corrales, subject to MLS roster compliance guidelines.

"This move presents Jorge with a great opportunity, and it works well for everyone involved," said Roughnecks Head Coach David Vaudreuil. "He has had an outstanding season for us thus far and has shown the ability to perform at the MLS level. We look forward to Jorge continuing his strong play with us this season as we try to lock down a berth in the USL playoffs.”

Corrales has started in 24 of his 25 regular-season appearances this season for the Roughnecks, and tallied the opening goal in a 2-1 win against Saint Louis FC on Aug. 10. The Roughnecks currently sit in fifth place in the USL Western Conference ahead of Sunday evening’s game with OKC Energy FC, putting the club on course for its first trip to the USL Cup Playoffs.

“We’ve had the chance to see Jorge quite a bit this season,” said Fire General Manager Nelson Rodríguez. “We were impressed by his play with Tulsa and in training with us. This signing is also credit to the competitive environment of the Roughnecks.”

Corrales began his professional career with his hometown side FC Pinar del Rio in 2009. Through 2015 he scored six goals in 80 appearances, and played an additional 18 games on loan with FC Sancti Spiritus. Internationall, Corrales has recorded 34 caps for his senior side and most recently appeared for Cuba against the United States in the Quarterfinals of the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
