Game-winner for Rising FC in clash with Switchbacks earns top spot

TAMPA, Fla. – Phoenix Rising FC midfielder A.J. Gray has claimed the USL Fans’ Choice Goal of the Week for Week 25 of the 2017 season, as his piercing low effort that earned Rising FC a 2-1 victory against Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC last Saturday night at Weidner Field took top spot in the weekly online poll.

Gray has provided solid minutes off the bench recently for Phoenix, playing a key role in each of the team’s past two victories as it has pushed into the playoff positions in the Western Conference. On Saturday night against Colorado Springs, Gray provided the perfect response for Rising FC after it had conceded an equalizer with seven minutes to go against the Switchbacks as his accurate low shot to the left corner of the net earned a big road victory for Phoenix’s playoff push.

Gray’s goal earned 37 percent of the poll conducted online at USLSoccer.com that concluded on Thursday morning. Tulsa Roughnecks FC’s Joey Calistri finished second for his excellent curled finish in a 3-1 victory against Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2, while Sacramento Republic FC attacking midfielder Villyan Bijev took third with 17 percent for his first goal in Republic FC colors that helped lead the side to a 2-1 comeback victory against Rio Grande Valley FC.
