TAMPA, Fla. – Charleston Battery goalkeeper Alex Tambakis has claimed the USL Fans’ Choice Save of the Week for Week 24 of the 2017 season as his outstanding diving stop against Louisville City FC on Saturday night at Slugger Field finished top of the weekly online poll.
Tambakis recorded five saves on the contest as two of the top three teams in the Eastern Conference squared off, with none better than his diving stop in the first half. Louisville’s Niall McCabe had space to try and curl a finish into the top-right corner, but Tambakis reacted well to go at full stretch to palm the effort away for a corner kick.
Tambakis received 47 percent of the poll conducted online at USLSoccer.com that concluded on Thursday morning. Phoenix Rising FC goalkeeper Josh Cohen finished second for his outstanding late save to deny Seattle Sounders FC 2’s Ray Saari, which preserved a key victory for his side, at 34 percent, while Saint Louis FC goalkeeper Devala Gorrick took third with 19 percent for his reaction stop to deny a close-range header by Ottawa Fury FC’s Carl Haworth on Sunday at TD Place.
