Weaving individual effort by Fury FC midfielder earned top spot in poll

TAMPA, Fla. – Ottawa Fury FC midfielder Jonathan Barden has earned the USL Fans’ Choice Goal of the Week for Week 24 of the 2017 season, as his outstanding solo effort against Saint Louis FC last Sunday afternoon at TD Place took top spot in the weekly online poll.

Barden had yet to find the net this season for Ottawa, but made sure his first goal of the season was a memorable one. Picking up possession on the right wing, the English midfielder wove past two defenders to get into the penalty area, and then fired home a precise low finish at the near post to open the scoring in a 2-2 draw against Saint Louis.

Barden’s goal earned 44 percent of the poll conducted online at USLSoccer.com that concluded on Thursday morning, edging out another outstanding striker from the same game by Saint Louis’ Seth Rudolph, whose 35-yard screamer that caromed in off the underside of the crossbar in the second half took 36 percent. LA Galaxy II forward Ariel Lassiter took third with 15 percent for his outstanding long-range effort on Sunday night against Rio Grande Valley FC.
