Acrobatic penalty kick stop against Timbers 2 earns weekly award

TAMPA, Fla. – Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC goalkeeper Moise Pouaty claimed the USL Fans’ Choice Save of the Week for Week 20 of the 2017 season, with his diving save against Portland Timbers 2 last Saturday night that helped the Switchbacks earn a home victory finishing top of the weekly online poll.

Pouaty earned Team of the Week honors for his standout performance against Portland on Saturday night, as Colorado Springs recorded a second straight win and improved to 6-2-3 at home with a convincing 4-1 victory. As part of a five-save effort, the 21-year-old faced two penalty kicks and was up to the challenge on each occasion. The first came in the 37th minute when Villyan Bijev stepped up to the spot and unleashed a rocket that appeared earmarked for his team-leading eighth goal of the season. Pouaty dove to his right however, pushing the effort over the bar with an outstretched hand.

Pouaty received 51 percent of the poll conducted online at USLSoccer.com that concluded on Thursday morning. OKC Energy FC’s Cody Laurendi took second place for his low, diving stop to deny Reno 1868 FC’s Seth Casiple with 31 percent, while Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 keeper Spencer Richey finished third with his right-handed reaction save on Sacramento Repubilc FC’s Chris Christian on Saturday night.
