Bolsters attacking midfield options for Tampa Bay

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The Tampa Bay Rowdies announced on Monday the club had signed midfielder Sebastián Guenzatti. Per club policy, further contract details were not disclosed.

Guenzatti, 26, trained with the Rowdies last week prior to earning a contract. He is the third former member of the New York Cosmos to sign with the Rowdies, joining Leo Fernandes and Walter Restrepo in Tampa Bay.

“Guenzatti is another attacking piece that complements the players we already have,” Tampa Bay Rowdies Head Coach Stuart Campbell said. “He fits in well with the group we have both on and off the field and we’re delighted to have signed him.”

Guenzatti was born in Uruguay and moved the United States at the age of 12. He began his professional career in Uruguay with Peñarol’s Under-19 team before moving on to play for Huracán in 2013.

After a short spell with Huracán, Guenzatti returned to the U.S. to sign for the Cosmos, where he made 81 appearances in four seasons and became a fan favorite. Guenzatti scored 10 goals in his time with the Cosmos.
