Former Villanova standout joins club for remainder of season

RICHMOND, Va. – The Richmond Kickers announced on Thursday the club had signed Oscar Umar for the remainder of the 2017 USL season. The Right to Dream Academy alum and Villanova University standout will be eligible for selection for Saturday’s match in Harrisburg.

A 2015 Villanova University graduate, Umar started all but one match over his four-year collegiate career, amassing 74 appearances. Contributing seven goals and 12 assists, he was selected to the All-Big East Third Team as a sophomore and to the Preseason All-Big East team prior to his junior year. Most recently, the 6-foot midfielder had a stint with West Chester United.

Originally from Tamale, Ghana, Umar was selected to attend the Right to Dream Academy in Accra before earning a student athlete scholarship to Kent School in Connecticut in 2008. In his first season, he led Kent School to its first playoff appearance in more than two decades followed by appearances in the New England finals the following two seasons. As a senior, he was named to the All-State team and was a three-time WNEPSSA honoree.
