Canada U20 international’s deft chip for TFC II earns weekly honor

TAMPA, Fla. – Toronto FC II midfielder Luca Uccello has earned the USL Fans’ Choice Goal of the Week for Week 16 of the 2017 season, as his deft chip against Ottawa Fury FC at the Ontario Soccer Centre on Saturday night – which also proved the game-winner in a 1-0 win – took top spot in the weekly online poll.

A Canadian U20 international, Uccello has been a mainstay for TFC II since the club’s inception, and produced an outstanding finish to cap a great counterattack by the hosts against their Ontario rival. A great ball over the top by Brian James from the left side of the penalty area played in Uccello in the right channel, and with a trailing defender closing the midfielder picked his head up and chipped Fury FC goalkeeper Callum Irving into the left corner of the net.

Uccello’s goal earned 47 percent of the poll conducted online at USLSoccer.com that concluded on Thursday morning. Phoenix Rising FC’s Didier Drogba finished second with 35 percent for his stoppage-time free kick that earned a 1-1 draw with Orange County SC, while FC Cincinnati’s Djiby Fall took third with nine percent for his excellent low finish off a long pass by Kenney Walker against the Richmond Kickers.
