Triple save during shutout of Tampa Bay takes top honors

TAMPA, Fla. – Pittsburgh Riverhounds goalkeeper Keasel Broome has earned the USL Fans’ Choice Save of the Month for June of the 2017 season, with his impressive set of three stops in quick succession during a shutout victory over the Tampa Bay Rowdies taking home the monthly award.

A surprise starter in the Week 14 contest after teammate Trey Mitchell sustained an injury in warmups, Broome answered the bell for the Riverhounds by turning away all five shots he faced to become the second keeper to keep the Rowdies off the board to that point in the season. With Tampa Bay pressing to close the gap in stoppage time, Broome was on the spot to deny tries from Keith Savage, Georgi Hristov and Tamika Mkandawire to seal the result.

Broome’s effort received 42 percent of the poll conducted online at USLSoccer.com that concluded on Monday morning. Sacramento Republic FC’s Evan Newton finished second with 27 percent for coming off his line to break up a Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 break, while Switchbacks keeper Moise Pouaty placed third for his diving stop of a header from OKC Energy FC’s Mickey Daly, which took 25 percent.
