RENO, Nev. – Reno 1868 FC welcomed a crowd of 6,647 fans to Greater Nevada Field as it hosted Liga MX’s Club Atlas FC on Saturday night, as the visitors claimed victory in the first international exhibition in the club’s history before a raucous crowd.

The night’s attendance boosted the 1868 FC’s cumulative attendance since last Friday night’s visit from Phoenix Rising FC to more than 18,000 fans in total.

Atlas FC did most of its damage in the first half going into halftime with a four-goal lead. Forward Matias Alustiza, one of the top goal scorers in Liga MX this past spring, scored two goals in the first half. Despite that, Reno also created chances in the opening stanza, while also giving the majority of its players the chance to see action in the contest.

“I thought we had some great chances out there against top competition,” said Reno midfielder Chris Wehan, one of the top chance creators in the USL.

In the second half, Reno’s defense clamped down, only allowing one goal to Fidel Martinez in the 87th minute as time ticked down as the visitors claimed a 5-0 victory on the night.

“I thought we played well,” Reno forward Dane Kelly said after the match. “We had a few mistakes but I was happy to see guys like [Elizondo] and others get in there against a top team like Atlas.”

Reno 1868 FC will get some much-needed time off before heading to Vancouver, Canada as it returns to league action next Saturday afternoon to take on Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2. Reno will return home on July 22nd when it hosts the Portland Timbers 2 at Greater Nevada Field.
