Player of the Month Nominees – June

Five candidates selected for standout performances over the past month

TAMPA, Fla. – The USL announced on Thursday the five nominees for the USL Player of the Month award for June, with top performers from the past month of the season selected for the ballot.

Voting in the USL Player of the Month Award will be conducted by the following three voting bodies:

  • The USL Technical Committee’s ballots comprise 34 percent of the poll.
  • The USL National Media Panel’s ballots comprise 33 percent of the poll.
  • A fan vote on will comprise the remaining 33 percent of the poll. The fan vote will run through Monday, July 10 at 9 a.m. ET.

The award winner and complete voting results will be announced on Thursday, July 13.

Please note: The USL Player of the Month selections process in no way is tied directly to the voting and selection process of End of the Year awards such as USL MVP or position players of the year.

2017 USL Player of the Month Nominees – June

  • Romario Williams, F, Charleston Battery – Williams recorded five goals in four games for the Battery as the side went undefeated throughout the month to remain on top of the Eastern Conference.
  • Sebastian Velasquez, M, Real Monarchs SLC – Velasquez recorded four assists and completed 14 key passes as the Monarchs set a USL record with a ninth consecutive win on a streak that began in April.
  • Cody Mizell, GK, Charlotte Independence – Mizell recorded 17 saves across five games to post a 0.80 goals-against average in June, and was a perfect 18-of-18 on goalkeeper interceptions for the month.
  • Brian Ownby, M, Louisville City FC – Ownby recorded three goals and two assists, and created eight additional scoring chances for Louisville as it moved into second in the Eastern Conference.
  • Trevin Caesar, F, Sacramento Republic FC – Caesar came alive as he scored four goals and added one assist to help push Sacramento firmly into the playoff positions in the Western Conference.
