S2, Energy FC face key game in Western playoff race on Monday night

TUKWILA, Wash. – Seattle Sounders FC 2 and OKC Energy FC sit level on points in the race for a place in the playoffs in the USL Western Conference entering Monday night’s clash at Starfire Stadium, making the clash between the clubs a crucial one. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. PT.

Seattle Sounders FC 2 news and notes

  • Current record: 5-6-2, 17pts

  • Seattle fell 3-1 to Rio Grande Valley FC in its last outing as a pair of second-half goals by the Toros earned victory at H-E-B Park.

  • The defeat moved Seattle to 1-2-2 in its last five games, which has seen the side slide to the middle of the pack in the race for a playoff position in the Western Conference.

  • Six S2 players were included in the starting lineup in Sounders FC’s 2-1 victory in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup last Tuesday night, including S2 minutes leader Ray Saari and leading scorer Irvin Parra.

  • Monday’s game will mark Sam Rogers’ first for S2 as a professional after the center back was signed to a USL contract last week. Rogers sits third on the team with 1,080 minutes of action this season.

  • A pair of second-half penalty kicks by Andy Craven gave Energy FC its second win in the last three outings. The goals were Craven’s first for the club since being acquired in a trade in May.

  • Goalkeeper C.J. Cochran has recorded five saves over the past two games as regular starter Cody Laurendi was on international duty.

  • Midfielder Jose Barril leads the team with 20 chances created this season, and has a passing accuracy rate of 83.7 percent on 338 passes this season.
