Monarchs look to set new mark as red-hot Reno visits Rio Tinto

SANDY, Utah – Real Monarchs SLC will aim for a USL record ninth consecutive victory on Monday night when it plays host to a Reno 1868 FC side that is on a strong run of form of its own that has moved the expansion side solidly into the playoff positions as the teams meet on Monday night at Rio Tinto Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. MT.

Real Monarchs SLC news and notes

  • Current record: 11-1-0, 33pts

  • The Monarchs recorded their eighth consecutive victory last Saturday night as it claimed a 2-0 victory against the Portland Timbers 2.

  • Goals either side of halftime by Andrew Brody and Chandler Hoffman lifted the Monarchs to victory as the side recorded a second consecutive shutout.

  • Hoffman has now scored 39 goals in his USL career at an average of 0.73 goals per 90 minutes in the league.

  • The Monarchs victory against Portland moved it into a tie with 2014’s Orlando City SC side on eight consecutive victories, the longest in league history.

Reno 1868 FC news and notes  

  • Current record: 5-3-3, 18pts

  • Reno took a 2-0 victory against Sacramento Republic FC last Saturday night at Greater Nevada Field to move into the top four in the Western Conference.

  • Goals by Dane Kelly and Antoine Hoppenot lifted 1868 FC to victory in its first league meeting with Republic FC.

  • Kelly leads the USL with 12 goals this season, and has scored in six consecutive games. His goal against Sacramento was his 60th all-time in the USL, the most in the league’s history.

  • 1868 FC loanee Kip Colvey started on Saturday in New Zealand’s opening game of the 2017 Confederations Cup, and played 83 minutes in the All Whites’ 2-0 loss to Russia.
