The Independence travel to Cincinnati to face off in the Queen City Cup Challenge

Charlotte (N.C.) – The Charlotte Independence (3-3-3) look to move forward from Wednesday’s defeat to Louisville City with a win on the road at FC Cincinnati this Saturday, June 10th, at Nippert Stadium in a battle of the Queen City Cup Challenge. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:00 PM ET. The Jacks are continuing their trend of travel and little rest, facing Cincinnati with only two days rest.

The Wednesday, June 7th game against Louisville City FC saw the Independence face defeat as the hosts jumped to third in the table. In his Charlotte debut, defender Ashani Fairclough picked up two yellow cards, and a subsequent red card, in a match with nine yellow cards shown. The Jacks have yet to register a clean sheet in the 2017 season as Richard Ballard netted his first career USL goal. Both Louisville and Charlotte played on short rest, as Louisville had traveled to FC Cincinnati a week prior and hosted the Charleston Battery on Saturday.

The Independence now turn to face FC Cincinnati, who sit seventh in the Eastern Conference. Cincinnati is coming off of an away defeat to the Rochester Rhinos, but will have enjoyed a full week’s rest and the comfort of playing at Nippert Stadium. The Cincinnati offense is led by Djiby Fall, who has scored six goals in six games, which ranks 3rd-most in the USL.

The U.S. Open Cup matchup on Wednesday, May 31st marked the beginning of a tough stretch of games for the Independence, taking on four games in 11 days, three of which are on the road. Charlotte faced Louisville City FC and now head to FC Cincinnati for a short two-game, five day road trip. Upon arrival home, the Independence will play the inaugural game in their new, home stadium in the Sportsplex at Matthews on Saturday, June 17th.

The Saturday, June 10th game versus Cincinnati FC will be broadcast on the USL’s Match Center via YouTube with a 7:00 PM ET kickoff.
