TAMPA, Fla. – The Pittsburgh Riverhounds’ Victor Souto’s strike against Toronto FC II last Wednesday night in the USL Game of the Week on ESPN3 has been voted the USL Fans’ Choice Goal of the Week for Week 7 of the 2017 season, adding to Souto’s excellent week after he was named to the USL Team of the Week on Tuesday.
Souto’s first professional goal, which earned the Riverhounds a 1-0 victory at Highmark Stadium, caught a wider audience as it earned the No. 2 spot on the ESPN SportsCenter Top 10 that night. After a good piece of link-up play in the midfield by Kevin Kerr and Marshall Hollingsworth, Souto moved into space from the midfield and fired a 25-yard finish into the top-right corner of the net.
Souto’s goal received 40 percent of the poll conducted online at USLSoccer.com that concluded on Thursday morning. Orange County SC’s Jerry van Ewijk took second place with 25 percent for his chipped finish against the LA Galaxy II in the club’s home opener this past Saturday, while FC Cincinnati’s Jimmy McLaughlin finished third with 20 percent as he finished a great move begun by Kadeem Dacres and Matthew Bahner for his first goal of the season against Richmond.
