Edges out Tambakis with standout stop in 10-save shutout against Louisville

TAMPA, Fla. – Toronto FC II goalkeeper Angelo Cavalluzzo has earned the USL Fans’ Choice Save of the Month for March and April of the 2017 season, with the 24-year-old’s highlight-reel stop that capped a 10-save shutout against Louisville City FC on April 29 in front of 8,282 at Slugger Field edging the Charleston Battery’s Alex Tambakis for the title.

Cavaluzzo had recorded back-to-back shutouts going into Toronto’s visit to Louisville, but put in his best performance of the season to earn USL Team of the Week honors to end the month. The best of his saves was a reflex stop that saw him deny Luke Spencer from close range off a redirected shot from a cross from the right that helped preserve a point for TFC II.

Cavalluzzo’s save received 41 percent of the poll conducted online at USLSoccer.com that concluded on Monday morning. Charleston’s Tambakis took second with 33 percent for his fingertip save that denied the Pittsburgh Riverhounds’ Kevin Kerr on April 8, while Louisville’s Tim Dobrowolski’s standout stop to deny a fierce half-volley by FC Cincinnati’s Matt Bahner on April 22 finished third with 16 percent.
