CARSON, Calif. – Seattle Sounders FC 2 continued its seesaw series of wins and losses. On Saturday, S2 returned to the win column, posting a 2-1 victory against the LA Galaxy II at StubHub Track & Field Stadium. Cameroon natives Felix Chenkam and Nouhou Tolo each scored their first goals for S2 to build a two-goal cushion within the opening 12 minutes. LA’s Ethan Zubak, who turned 19 on Saturday, minimized the damage with a 45th-minute score and his second goal of the season for Los Dos. Seattle moves to .500 with a 2-2-0 record (6 points). The Galaxy II, who have dropped three straight now, move to 1-3-0 (3 points).

Scoring:
7’ – SEA – Felix Chenkam (Ray Saari)
12’ – SEA – Nouhou Tolo (Ray Saari)
45’ – LA – Ethan Zubak (Jose Villarreal)

Three Things That Mattered:

  • 1. Seattle’s Cameroonian duo of Felix Chenkam and Nouhou Tolo stole the show early on Saturday, and the Galaxy II were fortunate that they didn’t go into the half sustaining further damage. LA’s opening half was peppered with giveaways, starting with captain Ryo Fujii who coughed up the ball in the defensive third. S2 countered quickly as Ray Saari crossed in from the left and Chenkam slid in to redirect in the seventh minute for a 1-0 lead. Five minutes later, Tolo received a deep ball from Seattle’s back line and he found the upper left corner and blasted a left-footed shot past goalkeeper Bennett Sneddon, who was making his first Los Dos appearance this year.

  • 2. For as woeful a start that LA had, the host side managed one minute of potential momentum change with Ethan Zubak’s second goal of the season. Conversely, it was a Sounders 2 giveaway at midfield that led to the Galaxy II’s 45th-minute score. Jose Villarreal timed a lofted ball to Zubak, who timed his run well against Seattle’s high line. Zubak celebrated his 19th birthday with the finish, taking a touch to the left to elude Seattle goalkeeper Tyler Miller and slotting home to cut S2’s lead to 2-1.

  • 3. The Galaxy II dropped their third straight as it matches the longest skid in club history. LA had three separate three-loss stretches during the 2015 season. Never have Los Dos sustained a four-game streak. LA drew up some set piece opportunities in the waning moments, but the host team could not muster a second goal to share the points.

USLSoccer.com Man of the Match:
Nouhou Tolo, Seattle Sounders FC 2 –
Tolo scored what proved to be the game-winner and remained active pushing up from his left back spot to keep the LA defense busy.
