Canada news and notes
Canada was eliminated from contention for the tournament’s final stage with a 5-0 defeat against Mexico on Monday night.
New Ottawa Fury FC signing Thomas Meilleur-Giguere captained the side for a second time, and helped Canada’s back line hold firm for the first half-hour, but two goals late in the first half proved too big of a hole to emerge from.
All five players from Toronto FC II saw action in the contest, with Liam Fraser and Luca Uccello both making their second starts of the tournament in midfield.
Four players from the current squad – including TFC II’s Shaan Hundal and Dante Campbell – are eligible to return in two years as Canada will again try to earn a first FIFA U20 World Cup berth since 2007.
Antigua & Barbuda news and notes
Antigua & Barbuda has also been eliminated from contention for the final stage after falling 4-1 to Honduras on Monday.
Luther Wildin scored an impressive individual goal to pull the Benna Boyz within a goal after having gone two goals down, but Honduras answered quickly with a goal of their own before wrapping up victory.
Antigua & Barbuda features new Seattle Sounders FC 2 forward Javorn Stevens, who has captained the side in both games so far.
The Benna Boyz have experienced some misfortune too, with the side conceding own goals by Vashami Allen against Mexico, and Jarmarlie Stevens against Honduras.
