SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sacramento Republic FC announced on Wednesday that the club had cancelled its friendly match against the New York Red Bulls on Friday, Feb. 10, due to pitch conditions at Bonney Field and record rainfall.

“When it rains it pours,” said Republic FC President Warren Smith. “As much as we need the rainfall in California, there was too much of a good thing for us this week. We want to thank the New York Red Bulls for understanding the situation and everyone’s concern for the players’ safety on the pitch. We’ve already begun planning for a substitute friendly to add to our schedule during drier and warmer weather.”

The Sacramento region has seen historic storms and rainfall this season. To date, the Sacramento region has received over 10 inches of rainfall more than the average and the region is on pace for the wettest winter on record. The weather has caused the pitch at Bonney Field to be extremely wet, with flooding in select sections, and deemed unsafe for play. Another wet storm is expected to hit on Thursday and could bring an additional two inches of rain with small river flooding advisories in the Sacramento region.

Due to the cancellation, Republic FC Season Ticket Holders will receive tickets to a future friendly match against an opponent to be announced as part of the ticket package.  Fans who have purchased single match tickets will receive a full refund through Ticketmaster.com.

Republic FC is still scheduled to play FC Cincinnati on Saturday, Mar. 4 in a preseason friendly. The 2017 USL regular season will kick off on March 26 with tickets going on sale on Tuesday, Feb. 14.
