EDINBURG, Texas – Houston Dynamo forward Mauro Manotas scored a pair of goals in four appearances on loan with Rio Grande Valley FC in 2016.

On Tuesday, he managed the same feat in 45 minutes as the Dynamo took a 3-0 victory against their USL partners in a preseason scrimmage at H-E-B Park.

The goals were Manotas’ second and third of the preseason. On Tuesday afternoon, the first arrived in the 21st minute after a foul on Alberth Elis resulted in a penalty kick that Manotas converted. Then the Colombian native found space at the back post to easily head home a cross from the left by Alex in the 35th minute to wrap up the victory.

The Toros side included a number of familiar names from their second-place finish in the Western Conference a season ago, with Ivan Maghalaes, Ruben Luna and Eric Verso all in the lineup. New names included Phanuel Kavita, who spent last season with Real Monarchs SLC, and goalkeeper Jake McGuire, a second-round selection in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft by the Dynamo.

Rio Grande Valley FC will open the 2017 USL season against San Antonio FC on Sunday, March 26 at H-E-B Park.
