FENTON, Mo. – Saint Louis FC announced on Tuesday it had agreed to a contract with defender Matt Sheldon and midfielder Sebastian Dalgaard, pending USL and the United States Soccer Federation approval.

A former member of OKC Energy FC, Dalgaard hails from Odense, Denmark, and began his career playing for FC Fyn’s U-19 and first team before switching to BK Marienlyst, where he scored 18 goals in 61 appearances for the club. Dalgaard then signed with Brønshøj BK of the Danish First Division where he scored five goals in 53 appearances from 2013-2014.

Dalgaard then moved to Energy FC, for which he played every minute of every match in 2015, scoring six goals and tallying one assist over 2,120 minutes. During the 2016 campaign, Dalgaard scored two goals and registered four assists while playing 23 games and logging 1,702 minutes as OKC reached the Western Conference Semifinals of the 2016 USL Cup Playoffs.

"Competing against Sebastian the past two seasons, he was always someone that we spoke about in our scouting reports," said Saint Louis FC General Manager Jeremy Alumbaugh. “Sebastian has an ability to take players off of the dribble as well as combine with players to get to goal. He has proven to be a dangerous attacking player in the USL and we feel that he has an even bigger upside to his game."

Originally from Bellevue, Wash., Sheldon went to Lincoln H.S. before playing collegiate soccer at UC Davis from 2011-2014. Sheldon made 81 appearances for the Aggies, scoring 15 goals and adding seven assists. He was a two-time All-Big West second team selection during his time at UC Davis.

After college, Sheldon made 14 appearances and scored six goals for the San Jose Earthquakes U-23 team. He went on to make 11 appearances for the Ventura County Fusion PDL team in 2015 before moving to the O.C. Blues U-23 club the following year. Sheldon briefly played for SG Kinzenbach of the German Hessen Verbandsliga before returning in July 2016 to sign his first professional contract with the Orange County Blues FC in the USL. Sheldon played 16 games with the Blues and logged 1,499 minutes with the club this past season.

“Matt is the type of player that fans and supporters will love to watch,” said Alumbaugh. “Consistent, steady, and ability to get forward out of the back to help the team in the attack. Matt's performance for the OC Blues during the second half of this past USL season was a major factor in their playoff run.”
