OTTAWA – Ottawa Fury FC announced on Wednesday it had re-signed 2015 USL Cup Champion Onua Obasi and fellow Englishman Ryan Williams for the club’s inaugural season in the USL in 2017. Both signings are pending league and federation approval.

"Obasi is a unique player. Somebody of his size with feet that good is quite incredible," said Fury FC Head Coach Paul Dalglish. "His defensive and offensive abilities 1v1 are as good as anybody in the league. So for us, to keep him in the squad was very important."

Obasi joined Fury FC last season, and was a welcome addition to Ottawa's backline, making 15 appearances before an Achilles injury brought his season to a premature end. The dynamic left back had helped the Rochester Rhinos claim the USL Cup and USL Regular Season Championship in 2015, prior to his arrival in Ottawa.

"Ottawa is a fantastic place for my family and I. There is a genuine sense of community here, so it was an easy decision to return," said Obasi. "I'm coming back to win a championship. We have a fantastic core group of players already committed for next season and we want to repay the fans for their support with our performances on the field."

Williams was named Fury FC’s 2016 Fans Player of the Year, as the talented midfielder made his presence known with clutch plays in the second half of the season. Williams scored four goals, recorded 17 shots on goal and earned a place on the Team of the Week three times in the span of a month.

"We saw Ryan's qualities in the latter part of the season," said Dalglish. "I'm very confident that with a full preseason behind him and coming back with fresh ideas, Ryan will be an even better player for us next year."

"I'm absolutely delighted to be coming back for another season with Fury FC," said Williams. "I've thoroughly enjoyed working with Paul and his staff since being here and the fans have made me feel unbelievably welcome with their amazing support, so it was a no brainer when I was asked to stay."
