WILMINGTON, N.C. – Wilmington Hammerheads FC has announced the signing of former OKC Energy FC forward Casey Townsend for the remainder of the 2016 USL season. Townsend will be available for the Hammerheads’ game on Tuesday night against the Charlotte Independence.

Townsend had a strong 2015 season with Energy FC, and recorded one goal and a team-high six assists for the side in 26 appearances. A former standout for the University of Maryland, Townsend had previously appeared in the USL with the Richmond Kickers, on loan from D.C. United, in 2013.

“I have heard only good things about the Wilmington Hammerheads organization,” said Townsend. They have good coaching staff in place, as well as a very good team that wants to compete for a championship. I hope to score some goals and help them in any way I can.”

Townsend had made one appearances for Energy FC this season for Energy FC before he and the club parted ways. He also previously played in MLS for Chivas USA in 2012 before being traded to D.C. United the following offseason.

“Casey will be a fantastic addition to our squad and hopefully bring us much needed firepower,” said Hammerheads Coach Mark Briggs. “He has the experience and drive to help us in many ways.”
