CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Charlotte Independence have announced the signing of forward/midfielder Asa Kryst for the 2016 USL season.

A former player for the PDL’s SC United Bantams, Kryst is coming off a collegiate career that saw him score 13 goals and add three assists in 67 appearances for the University of South Carolina. A native of Fort Mill, S.C., Kryst competed for the Charlotte Soccer Academy from 2008-2011, and scored 32 goals in three seasons for the club.

“Asa possesses the pace and technical ability to beat players in one-on-one situations, is capable of playing in any of the attacking roles, and has a creative bent in front of goal,” said Independence Coach Mike Jeffries. “I look forward to seeing Asa develop within the group.”

The Independence are next in action on Sunday afternoon as they visit the New York Red Bulls II at Red Bull Arena. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. ET.
