RICHMOND, Va. – The Richmond Kickers have announced the signing of goalkeeper Sawyer Gaffney as an Academy Signing for the 2016 USL season.

Gaffney is currently a member of Richmond United’s USSF Development Academy U18 Team, and has committed to Davidson College for his collegiate career.

“Sawyer is one of the most dedicated youth athletes we have seen come through the Kickers ranks,” said Leigh Cowlishaw, Richmond Kickers Director of Soccer. “His work ethic and desire to succeed are second to none. Sawyer has already impressed the first team with his performances during training and we are pleased to add him to the squad for 2016.”

Gaffney follows in the footsteps of Drew Romig, who was named to the Kickers’ game-day roster 29 times in the past two seasons. Romig is now part of the men’s soccer team at the University of North Carolina.
