TAMPA, Fla. – Together with the USL Black Players Alliance, United Soccer League today announced that Charlotte, N.C., resident Kamaya “Milk” Fuller is the first recipient of a scholarship to Bellevue University, the Official Education Partner of the USL.

As part of the multi-year partnership between the USL and Bellevue University, the two organizations worked with the USL Black Players Alliance to identify scholarship candidates through non-profit organizations that benefit minority youth. Charlotte’s Bunk 57 Ministries and Heal Charlotte recommended Fuller.

Milk is interested in Bellevue University’s graphic design program because of their lifelong hobbies of art and video gaming.

“I graduated from high school with no idea how to start the climb to the future that I had in mind for myself,” Milk said.  “When my aunt reached out to me with the details of this scholarship, and I knew that I had to try. I did some research and found a program that piqued my interest.  I feel like my spark has come back and I feel excited at the thought that my future can begin.”

Bellevue University also grants a full scholarship to each USL Championship and League One team annually to be awarded to a player to pursue their undergraduate or graduate degrees.

“The individual aspirations that our students have, and that Bellevue University and the USL are enabling together, are truly remarkable,” said Bellevue University President Mary Hawkins. “We look forward to Milk joining our diverse community of learners who are motivated to create a brighter future for themselves.”

Founded in 1966, Bellevue University is one of the country’s top 20 online universities and has nearly 60,000 graduates worldwide. In addition to providing full scholarships annually to Championship and League One clubs, Bellevue University will offer tuition assistance across the entire USL ecosystem to club and league employees, as well as family members of staff, coaches, and players.

"Our organization was extremely excited to get this opportunity to work with the USL, Bellevue, and our local non-profit organizations to identify a candidate for this incredible opportunity,” said BPA Executive Committee Member Brandon Miller. “We wanted to make sure this scholarship went to someone who needed it and wanted it the most and I believe we found the perfect recipient. Kamaya has an amazing opportunity to continue their education and pursue their dreams and we want to thank everyone involved for helping to make this happen."

The United Soccer League also works with Bellevue University on coursework and curriculum integrations, providing USL guest speakers in the classroom, and exploring mentoring, and league-based internship opportunities.
