Battery goalkeeper’s reflex save against Tampa Bay late in campaign earns third consecutive title

TAMPA, Fla. – When it comes to the inevitable, we’re going to have to change the saying to: Death, Taxes, Joe Kuzminsky Winning Save of the Year.

The Charleston Battery goalkeeper earned his third consecutive USL Championship Fans’ Choice Save of the Year award on Monday as his reflex save late in the regular season against the Tampa Bay Rowdies took victory with 98 percent of the vote conducted online over the past week.

Kuzminsky has been a fan favorite from almost the moment he stepped between the sticks for Charleston in the 2018 season, and aside from a brief stint away on loan with Israeli Premier League side Maccabi Haifa – current home of former Championship goalkeeper Josh Cohen – he’s been a mainstay for the club ever since. Kuzminsky has made 89 regular season appearances for the Battery and logged 28 shutouts and 248 saves, including 27 appearances this past campaign.

Those numbers have endeared him to the Battery faithful, who sent his outstanding denial of a header from the top of the six-yard area by Tampa Bay’s Aaron Guillen past New Mexico United’s Alex Tambakis in the Semifinals before eliminating Orange County SC’s Patrick Rakovsky in the Final.
