Midfielder’s missile to top-left corner from 35 yards against Tacoma took first in fan poll

TAMPA, Fla. – Sacramento Republic FC’s Luis Felipe Fernandes has claimed the USL Championship’s Fans’ Choice Goal of the Month award for October as his long-range strike against Tacoma Defiance at Heart Health Park in mid-October finished top of the poll conducted over the past weekend.

Fernandes is the second consecutive Republic FC player to claim the award after Julian Chavez claimed September’s honor. Arriving in Sacramento this offseason, Fernandes was one of the most consistent performers for the side this season and against the Defiance on October 2 delivered a sensational finish from 35 yards out that picked the top-left corner of the net to help the hosts earn a 3-1 victory on home turf.

Fernandes’ goal earned 30 percent of the poll conducted at USLChampionship.com to claim the award. FC Tulsa’s Joaquin Rivas finished second on 22 percent for his outstanding driven finish from range in the Black Gold Derby against OKC Energy FC on October 30, while New Mexico United’s Ilija Ilic took third on 14 percent for his stoppage-time volley against San Diego Loyal SC on October 17.
