Republic FC Academy product’s long-range strike against Las Vegas took first in fan poll

TAMPA, Fla. – Sacramento Republic FC’s Julian Chavez has claimed the USL Championship’s Fans’ Choice Goal of the Month award for September as his curling finish against Las Vegas Lights FC at Cashman Field last month finished top of the poll conducted over the past weekend.

A product of the Republic FC Academy, Chavez scored his second goal in the professional ranks late in Sacramento’s 3-1 victory against Lights FC on September 5. With two minutes to go, the forward picked up possession just outside the top-right corner of the penalty area and cut in on his left foot to deliver a shot to the top-right corner of the net to put the game away for the visitors.

Chavez’ goal earned 43 percent of the poll conducted at USLChampionship.com to claim the award. Oakland Roots SC forward Johnny Rodriguez’s bicycle kick finish against San Diego Loyal SC and New Mexico United attacking midfielder Amando Moreno’s brilliant individual finish against Real Monarchs SLC finished tied for second on 22 percent.
