League and Clubs Honor Latinx Cultures, Communities and People That Have Shaped Soccer in the United States

TAMPA, Fla. – The United Soccer League will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15-October 15. Over the four-week span, the league will recognize, honor and celebrate members of the Hispanic community that have shaped the USL, its clubs and communities across the United States.

During Hispanic Heritage Month, the USL will publish content in English and Spanish that honors some of the greatest Hispanic players in league history. An exclusive video series called Para Nosotros, Por Nosotros (For Us, By Us), tells stories about USL’s Latinx communities across the United States in collaboration with Kicks to the Pitch. Two USL Championship matches will be broadcast to a national audience on ESPN Deportes: Charlotte Independence vs Hartford Athletic on September 30, and Charleston Battery vs. Tampa Bay Rowdies on October 7.

Across the Championship and League One, clubs have Hispanic Heritage Nights planned in their home markets, where they will celebrate local organizations that serve Hispanic communities.

“Soccer is the world’s game, and Latin America has given the USL dynamism, artistry and an unshakable love for fútbol,” said USL President Jake Edwards. “We look forward to honoring the diverse Hispanic people that continue to shape our league, and celebrating the connections between clubs and communities across the country.”
