Austin Bold FC defender Amobi Okugo has been selected to Forbes’ 30 Under 30 for 2020, as his off-the-field endeavors including A Frugal Athlete and the Ok U Go Foundation earned recognition as one of the brightest young talents in the sports field this year.
Honored to have made the list with so many great individuals doing amazing things. Thankful to everyone who has been part of the journey. Now I just need some Forbes money and a discount on the subscription and we good. The work don’t stop https://t.co/o2PARutJ1n

Okugo – who has made 50 appearances for Austin over the past two seasons in the USL Championship – was joined by a star-studded group including the Philadelphia 76ers’ Ben Simmons, ESPN’s Malika Andrews, the Arizona Cardinals’ DeAndre Hopkins and the Los Angeles Sparks’ Chiney Ogwumike in receiving the honor.
A member of the USL Black Players Alliance, Okugo has been one of the notable figures making moves away from the field since joining the professional ranks with the Philadelphia Union in 2010. A graduate of both the University of Louisville (Bachlor of Arts/Science in Organizational Leadership and Development) and Arizona State University (Master of Arts / Science in Sports Law), Okugo founded A Frugal Athlete to spotlight the personal financial and career playbooks of professional athletes while educating and maximizing their financial resources.
This past July, Okugo was the guest of Kelsi Steele and Scott Stewart on the Steele Some Time podcast, where he discussed his off-the-field projects that have been aimed at helping fellow professionals and their money management.
