On Saturday, September 12, USL Academy partner organization Alianza de Futbol will begin its Alianza Contigo program in El Paso, Texas. Given that Alianza was unable to hold its annual player identification series due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the organization decided to help Hispanic communities across the country in a different way.

Alianza Contigo will use soccer facilities to bring together those communities in 10 cities around the United States. In each city, the organization will supply both a food pantry and a household pantry, providing necessary items to those in need.

The first two cities the organization will visit are El Paso and Phoenix. The drive-through pantries will be set up at the facilities of USL Championship clubs El Paso Locomotive FC and Phoenix Rising FC.

After El Paso and Phoenix, Alianza Contigo will host events in New York, Denver, Chicago, Charlotte, Dallas, Houston, San Jose and Los Angeles. The program’s goal is to provide assistance to more than 20,000 families nationwide. To do so, it will enlist the help of Alianza teams, players, referees and staff as volunteers.

“We have always been futbol for the people; even though we cannot provide our tournaments this year there is still the fellowship that unites us, and we are fully dedicated to supporting our community,” said Joaquin Escoto, Managing Partner of BRC Group and Owner of Alianza de Futbol. “We are thankful to our partners, Allstate, Verizon, Gatorade and TUDN for their support of this initiative during this difficult time.”

Alianza Contigo has partnered with Feeding America, and will have local food banks in each city assist with the events. Good360, a non-profit organization that distributes toys, clothes, household and other items that have been donated to them to non-profit organizations around the country to provide to people in need, will supply Alianza Contigo with 8,000 to 10,000 household items in each city.
