It was Preki’s farewell for Republic FC as rival Los Dos visited Papa Murphy’s Park

Welcome to the Classic Championship Game of the Day, where today we revisit one of the most memorable games of the 2015 season as Sacramento Republic FC played host to rival the LA Galaxy II at Papa Murphy’s Park.

The game served as the last on the sidelines for Republic FC Head Coach Preki, who had led the side to victory in the USL Championship Final a year prior in its inaugural season while taking Coach of the Year honors in the process. Sacramento had maintained its upper hand in the series against Los Dos, winning all three prior meetings that season, and was looking to build on a five-game undefeated streak entering the mid-July game as it ramped up toward a second trip to the postseason.

The Galaxy II had been in excellent form as well after a very slow start to the season, with nine wins in their previous 12 outings as they headed to Northern California. Featuring a handful of the side that had seen victory slip away in the Semifinals of the 2014 USL Championship Playoffs against Sacramento, Los Dos were looking to end the winning streak Republic FC had built against them, and try to spoil the party for Preki and Sacramento’s fans.

The scene is set, so sit back, relax and enjoy a classic clash from the Championship’s history.
