Welcome to today’s Classic Championship Game of the Day, where we’re revisiting a game that at the time had major playoff implications as the final stretch of the season came into view between Austin Bold FC and Orange County SC at Bold Stadium from July 13, 2019.

Austin Bold FC had made a solid start to its inaugural campaign and was well on the way to securing its eventual place in the 2019 USL Championship Playoffs. Sitting in seventh position, Austin’s Brazilian duo of Kleber and Andre Lima had led the attack, while Championship veterans like Diego Restrepo and Sean McFarlane had also played a key role in setting the club off on the right foot.

Orange County SC’s year wasn’t going quite as well, however. After finishing top of the Western Conference in 2018, the changes to the squad had led to a loss of chemistry and saw the side arrive in Texas in 13th place in the standings. The side including Aodhan Quinn, Michael Seaton and U.S. youth international goalkeeper Aaron Cervantes needed a positive result to start an upward ascent toward the postseason positions.
