Fifth edition of elite multi-day residential event to be hosted in Birmingham, Alabama

TAMPA, Fla. – Top players from across the Super Y League will be welcomed by the USL Championship’s Birmingham Legion FC next April for the fifth edition of the USL Experience, an elite multi-day residential event which introduces Super Y League’s top players to the daily lives of professional soccer players. Official dates for the event will be announced later this month.

“We’re delighted to have Legion FC host next year’s USL Experience,” said Super Y League Vice President Joel Nash. “The top Super Y League players from 2019 will have the unique opportunity to see what it takes to achieve their professional soccer dreams. The club brought great things to Alabama in its inaugural USL Championship season, and the Legion coaches and players will make excellent mentors.”

Entering its second season in the Championship in 2020, Legion FC advanced to the postseason in its inaugural season, the lone expansion club in the Eastern Conference to do so. A hotbed of talent that has recently produced U.S. Youth Internationals such as Chris Richards (Bayern Munich) and Brandon Servania (FC Dallas), Birmingham will offer a glimpse at what a professional playing career for the 72 players selected for the event.

“We’re looking forward to hosting the Super Y League and bringing the USL Experience to Birmingham in 2020,” said Legion FC President and General Manager Jay Heaps. “The quality of youth soccer in Birmingham and across the country continues to improve, and we’re excited to bring these prospects into our professional setting so they can experience a high level of play and realize what they’re striving toward.

“Fresh off our inaugural season in the USL Championship, it will be a valuable learning experience for everyone involved, and we’re grateful for the opportunity to continue to play a role in the expansion and growth of the game.”

The USL Experience has previously been hosted by San Antonio FC, Phoenix Rising FC, FC Cincinnati and the Tampa Bay Rowdies. In addition to competitive training and match play, the 2020 edition of the event will include additional educational programming, such as workshops and presentations, a stadium and facility tour, access to Legion FC players and staff and much more. All meals, lodging and Capelli Sport training gear are provided to invitees at no cost.
