PAPILLION, Neb. – Alliance Omaha Soccer (USL Omaha) announced today it has finalized its group of local investors for its Omaha-based United Soccer League (USL) League One team. The group of investors, consisting of thirteen individuals and business-owners from the Omaha region is led by Buildertrend Co-founder Dan Houghton.

“My investment in USL Omaha is based on our ability to create a sense of place and gather our community together for a common purpose and sense of pride,” said USL Omaha local investor and Buildertrend Co-Founder Dan Houghton. “What I have already seen accomplished by Gary Green, Coach Mims and the entire USL Omaha staff has exceeded every expectation and I have immense confidence that this team will be a leader on and off the field.”

Houghton co-founded Buildertrend in 2006, a tech company based in Omaha, NE with over 500 employees. An active member of the community, he recently became a Board Director for the Omaha Community Foundation. Houghton also serves as a Board Director for the Chamber of Commerce and Habitat for Humanity of Omaha.

Houghton is joined by local business leaders representing a diversity of industries and sports including: Mike Cassling, CEO of CQuence Health Group; Martie Cordaro, President of the Omaha Storm Chasers and USL Omaha; Matthew Dwyer, Principal at GreenSlate Development; Philip Lee, Co-Founder of LifeLoop; Jay Lund, Principal at GreenSlate Development; Mike Mackintosh, President of Impact Financial Company; Michael Miller, Executive Vice President of Colliers International Nebraska; Kyle Peterson, Chairman and CEO of Colliers International Nebraska and a baseball analyst for ESPN; Mike Potthoff, President of Colliers International Nebraska; Jeff Royal, Owner of Dundee Bank; Ren Smith, President of RCSS, LLC; and Jeffrey Wyatt, Senior Vice President of Colliers International Nebraska.

“Our group of local investors know this is about more than an investment in a sport or pro sports team; this is an investment in our community, our workforce and our future,” said Alliance Omaha Soccer CEO and Managing Partner Gary Green. “The support we’ve already seen, from our corporate community and soccer fans alike, is overwhelming. We couldn’t be more grateful to our group of local investors, along with the support of Alliance Sports Co-founder Larry Botel, for their commitment to the community as well as to the club.”

Alliance Omaha Soccer will be the 11th team to play in League One and the only professional soccer team in the state of Nebraska. USL League One is a United States Soccer Federation-sanctioned professional men’s soccer league that has just completed its inaugural season. USL League One occupies the third tier of the American soccer landscape, below USL Championship (tier two) and Major League Soccer (tier one). The team will play its home matchers at Werner Park in Sarpy County, home also to the Omaha Storm Chasers of Minor League Baseball. The team is led by Head Coach Jay Mims on the field and COO Matt Homonoff in the front office.

The team’s inaugural season will kick off in March 2020. USL Omaha is in the final stages of announcing its name and revealing its crest and will conduct its first set of open tryouts before the end of 2019.
