Standout finish in high-scoring encounter earned Defiance player victory for second consecutive week

TAMPA, Fla. – Tacoma Defiance forward Shandon Hopeau has claimed the USL Championship Fans’ Choice Goal of the Week for Week 12 of the 2019 season for his standout finish in a thrilling 3-3 draw against Fresno FC last Sunday afternoon at Cheney Stadium. Hopeau is the second consecutive Defiance player to claim the Fans’ Choice Goal of the Week award following Justin Dhillon in Week 11.

Hopeau created the opportunity early in the second half against the Foxes, turning well onto a good pass by defender Sam Rogers that allowed him to move into space in Fresno’s half. The 20-year-old then unleashed a powerful finish from the right channel that picked out the left corner of the net for Tacoma’s second goal of the game.

Hopeau’s goal earned 39 percent of the poll conducted online at USLChampionship.com that concluded on Thursday lunchtime. The Charleston Battery’s Zeiko Lewis took second place with 28 percent for his remarkable Olimpico corner kick from the right that bent inside the near post against ATL UTD 2 last Saturday night, while OKC Energy FC’s Omar Gordon took third place on 18 percent for his volleyed finish against Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC last Saturday night.
