Blistering finish against Republic FC edged to narrow victory in online poll

TAMPA, Fla. – Las Vegas Lights FC midfielder Junior Sandoval has earned the USL Championship Fans’ Choice Goal of the Week for Week 9 of the 2019 season as his rifled long-range finish that capped his side’s victory against Sacramento Republic FC last Saturday night took top spot in the online poll that concluded on Thursday lunchtime.

A recent acquisition by Lights FC from Memphis 901 FC, Sandoval made a big impression in his home debut for the side. After coming on as a substitute, the Honduran midfielder found space 30 yards from goal and hit a blistering shot into the top-right corner of the net for Las Vegas’ fourth goal of the night. The goal was Sandoval’s first in the Championship and helped Lights FC maintain its undefeated home record this season.

Sandoval’s goal earned 30 percent of the poll conducted online at USLChampionship.com, narrowly edging out Memphis 901 FC’s Duane Muckette on 29 percent after the Trinidad & Tobago international polished off a remarkable assist by Adam Najem against Birmingham Legion FC last Saturday afternoon. Legion FC’s Daniel Johnson came in a close third on 24 percent for his long-range effort in the same contest at AutoZone Park.
