One-on-one save as part of shutout against San Antonio claimed top spot in weekly poll

TAMPA, Fla. – New Mexico United goalkeeper Cody Mizell has earned the USL Championship Fans’ Choice Save of the Week for Week 9 of the 2019 season for his one-on-one denial early in the second half of NMU’s clash last Sunday evening against San Antonio FC at Isotopes Park.

Mizell claimed the award for a second consecutive week as he produced a crucial save to keep the hosts on top in front of a club-record crowd of 15,027 fans. San Antonio’s Brian Gomez broke in on the right side looking for an equalizer, but Mizell stood up to his shot and parried it away to maintain New Mexico’s one-goal advantage.

Mizell’s save earned 70 percent of the poll conducted online at USLChampionship.com that concluded on Friday morning. Memphis 901 FC’s Scott Levene finished second with 13 percent for low save on a first-time shot by Louisville City FC’s Niall McCabe last Tuesday night at Slugger Field, while Phoenix Rising FC’s Zac Lubin finished third on 10 percent for a diving save to his left that keep out a curling shot by Orange County SC’s Harry Forrester last Saturday night at Championship Soccer Stadium.
