Rochester reaches final four for third time in team history
On the 10-year anniversary of their famous US Open Cup Championship run, the Rochester Rhinos placed themselves within two games of becoming a two-time champion, downing the USL Second Division’s Wilmington Hammerheads 2-1 Tuesday night in the Quarterfinals as the other two USL clubs fell to their opposition.
Upsets plentiful in Open Cup Tuesday
Both USL-2 sides advance; Battery and Rhinos move on
For the first time since 1997, two USL-2 level clubs advanced to the US Open Cup quarterfinals Tuesday evening as Wilmington and Harrisburg upset their MLS opposition to advance to the elite eight. Charleston also knocked off an MLS club for the third straight year and the Rochester Rhinos advanced in penalties. At the close Wednesday, four USL sides remained, including at least one guarenteed for the semifinals.

The Second Round of the 2009 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup proved to be a thriller as two of the eight contests required penalty kicks to decide a winner while two others needed overtime, including one of the two narrow affairs that finished 1-0 - an upset by the Premier Development League’s Ocean City Barons.
