2008 US OPEN CUP QUALIFYING BREAKDOWN

MLS – 8 Teams 
The top three teams from each conference in the final 2007 MLS standings are automatic qualifiers (six) for the 2008 tournament. The remaining clubs will compete in play-in matches to determine the final two berths with the other two 2007 playoff qualifiers, Chicago and Kansas City, featuring in the final games of the play-in series. Expansion San Jose plays Real Salt Lake April 30 with the winner traveling to Columbus May 27 for the right to play at Chicago (date TBD) for an Open Cup berth. In the chase for the other berth, Kansas City will play host (date TBD) to the May 27 winner of Colorado at Los Angeles.  

Automatic Qualifiers: DC United, Chivas USA, Houston Dynamo, New England Revolution, FC Dallas, New York Red Bulls 
Eligible Teams for Qualification: Chicago Fire, Kansas City Wizards, Columbus Crew, Los Angeles Galaxy, Colorado Rapids, Real Salt Lake, San Jose Earthquakes

USL First Division – 8 Teams
All eight US-based teams in the USL First Division will participate in the tournament.

USL-1 Teams: Atlanta Silverbacks, Carolina RailHawks, Charleston Battery, Miami FC Blues, Minnesota Thunder, Portland Timbers, Rochester Rhinos, Seattle Sounders

USL Second Division – 8 Teams (qualifying through May 26) 
Eight of the nine US-based teams will qualify in the tournament. The Harrisburg City Islanders receive an automatic berth as the defending league champion and the Richmond Kickers as the defending regular season champion. In addition, the top six teams, based on point percentage from games played through May 26, qualify for the tournament.

Defending Champion (automatic qualifier): Harrisburg City Islanders & Defending Regular Season Champion (automatic qualifier): Richmond Kickers 
Eligible Teams for Qualification: Charlotte Eagles, Cleveland City Stars, Crystal Palace Baltimore, Pittsburgh Riverhounds, Real Maryland Monarchs, Western Mass Pioneers, Wilmington Hammerheads

Premier Development League – 8 Teams (qualifying through May 26)
Eight teams will participate from the PDL, where 62 U.S.-based teams are eligible to qualify for the U.S. Open Cup. The top two teams from the Central and Eastern conference groups and the top team each from the Mid South, Southeast, Northwest and Southwest division groups will advance based on the results of four pre-designated league games will advance to the tournament.

U.S. Adult Soccer Association Regional Qualifiers – 8 Teams (qualifying through May 26)
Eight representatives from the U.S. Adult Soccer Association will also qualify for the 2007 U.S. Open Cup. Two teams qualify from each of the USASA’s four regions (I, II, III & IV), where qualifying tournaments will be staged on a statewide and then regional basis.
