At the age of 6 Mauricio started playing soccer with the AYSO team the Wild Cats. He then moved on to join the PYSL Cobras. Mauricio then played 3 seasons with AV Heat Soccer Club and 3 seasons with the AV Sharks FC.
In an effort to find a higher level of competition Mauricio moved to the Thousand Oaks based So Cal United to play at the premier club level. He achieved over 25 medals in tournaments and the regular season of club level play.
In the eighth grade Mauricio lead his Shadow Hills Junior High School team in scoring and was awarded Offensive Player of the Year. At Highland High School Mauricio played 4 years on the varsity squad. He received Honorable Mention, he made First Team, lead in scoring and assisting and was team captain.
He played for 2 years at the College of the Canyons where he currently holds the record for most goals scored in one season, he was First Team and Offensive Player of the Year.
In 2007 Mauricio was chosen to be part of the Lancaster Rattlers family, which is part of the United Soccer Leagues. He played in 12 games where he scored 2 goals, had 3 assists and 7 points in 872 minutes played.
