 Michael Giffin is a native of the Chicagoland area and the St. Charles , IL community in the western suburbs. He will be a senior this coming fall at University of Illinois -Chicago (UIC) for 5th-year head coach John Trask.
This will be his first year with the Chicago Fire Premier.
In 2006 at UIC he was named to the Horizon League All-Newcomer Team honoree and appeared in 20 matches. he was a key part of the nation's top-rated defense, which surrendered just eight goals on the year for an NCAA-best 0.36 GAA and turned in a school-record 13 shutouts
Prior to UIC: He played one season at 2005 NCAA College Cup runner-up New Mexico and appeared in seven matches, starting two for the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation champion Lobos.
Prep experience: He lettered as a midfielder on the varsity soccer team during his freshman and sophomore years at Burlington Central...earned all-conference and all-area accolades both seasons.
He played on the club level for Sockers FC Chicago under coach Dave Richardson for four years. He was member of the Sockers Top Talent program as a junior and senior and did not play for his prep program those years.
His club teams won a record seven state championships while with Sockers FC...also part of a Jefferson Cup title-winning team (2004) and a Dallas Cup Super Group championship (2005)..
He played on the Illinois State Select ODP team from 2000-2004. He is majoring in industrial design at UIC. | |
