McClellan showed plenty of promise as a rookie in 2006, finishing with four goals and nine points in only 722 minutes played. His first pro score came in his first start, on May 20 versus Western Mass, and he bagged his first game winner on June 3 against
Long Island
. He posted a goal and an assist in a 5-1 thrashing of
Cincinnati
on July 2. He earned Team of the Week honors on June 5 (Week 7), June 19 (Week 9), and July 3 (Week 11). McClellan was also the only City Islander to be named USL-2 Player of the Week (June 5) in 2006.
The 2005 Division III Player of the Year, McClellan contributed to three national championship teams at
Messiah
College
(2002, 2004, and 2005). McClellan scored 20 goals and assisted on six others as a senior, helping Messiah to a perfect 24-0 record. In 2004, he bagged 25 goals. Over the course of those two seasons, he accounted for a remarkable 17 game-winning goals. He earned First Team All-Conference, First Team All-Region, and First Team All-American honors as a junior and senior, and was named the Commonwealth Conference Player of the Year in 2004. During his time at Messiah, the club posted a stunning 88-6-4 record.
