Calvano joins the City Islanders after two seasons with the Pittsburgh Riverhounds. As a rookie in 2005, the gritty backliner played 1,387 minutes (18 games) for the Riverhounds, posting five points (goal, three assists). He played eight games (551 minutes) in 2006. Calvano appeared in all 40 games for Penn State during his junior and senior seasons – all the more remarkable considering that he failed to make the team his freshman and sophomore years.
