Professional Experience and Honors: 2006: Ssejjemba (pronounced Say-gem-ba) became an offensive scoring threat during his second season with the Kickers, consistently leading the team and the league, notching 17 of the Kickers 50 goals in 19 regular season games played. With four assists, he concluded the 2006 campaign with 41 points (overall), 16 points ahead of any other Kickers player and was a USL2 All-League First Team selection as well as USL2 Scoring Champion and Goal Scoring Champion. Named USL2 Most Valuable Player, Ssejjemba earned USL2 Team of the Week honors five times (5/15/06, 5/22/06, 6/26/06, 7/24/06, 8/7/06) over the season, garnering USL2 Player of the Week honors twice (5/15/06, 6/26/06). A key component during the Kickers drive to the USL2 regular season title and USL Championship, Ssejjemba joined DC United (MLS) on loan for the remainder of the MLS 2006 season after notching three goals in a reserve-game tryout and saw 25 minutes of action with the senior squad against the Chicago Fire on September 17th.
2005: In his rookie season in the USL First Division, Ssejjemba made his professional debut on April 16th against the Atlanta Silverbacks. He registered three goals on the season, of which two were game-winners and was named to the USL First Division Team of the Week on July 5th for his game-winning penalty kick in Puerto Rico. A native of Uganda, Ssejjemba was called up to represent his country for two Uganda National Team World Cup Qualifying matches (Africa Zone) on June 5th versus the Democratic Republic of Congo and on June 18th versus the Cape Verde National Team in Ssejjemba’s hometown of Kampala.
College Experience and Honors: A Virginia Intermont College (NAIA) soccer standout, Ssejjemba tallied 186 points over four seasons (75 goals, 36 assists) including 57 points (24 goals, 9 assists) his senior year. Robert was named to the First Team All-Appalachian Athletic Conference, First Team All-Region XII and was a two-time All-American. A two-year captain, Ssejjemba led the Appalachian Athletic Conference in goals (24), shots (79) and shots on goal (62) in 2004. He recorded four hat tricks his senior year, including a four-goal game against Union College on September 11, 2004. In addition, he was a member of the Kalamazoo Kingdom (PDL) where he led the team in goals (10), assists (6) and points (26).
International Experience: Robert’s playing experience extends to the international level as he made his first appearance with the senior Uganda National Team on June 5, 2005 versus the Democratic Republic of Congo during the 2006 FIFA World Cup Germany Preliminary competitions of the Africa Zone. A native of Kampala, Uganda, Ssejjemba played for the Ugandan under-18 and under-20 National Team before arriving in the United States to begin his collegiate career.
