He has played in several prestigious international competitions such as 1998 Copa Caribe, 1999 Pan American Games, and the 2002 Concacaf Gold Cup being his last appearance with the National Team. He was then considered the best player in the Cuban squad. In 2004, Alberto signed with MLS side Colorado Rapids. He appeared in 13 games, in which he accumulated a total of 5 points. In 2005, he signed with the Puerto Rico Islanders, appearing in 10 games, most of them as a sub. He returns to the Islanders for the 2007 season.
