|Lianne Sanderson is an English striker with a soccer pedigree that very few in the world can compare to.
Sanderson was selected to join Arsenal Ladies youth academy at age 9, and spent the next 11 years with the club. She worked her way to the first team by the 2003-2004 season, and retained her spot on the roster until she left the club in 2008 to sign with Chelsea Ladies, another member of international soccer royalty.
She stayed with Chelsea through 2010, then brought her game to the U.S. in 2011 when she was drafted by the Philadelphia Independence in the WPS international draft. She scored eight goals in 40 appearances with Philadelphia, before spending the second half of 2011 playing for Espanyol in Spain.
In addition to her club career, Sanderson has played at the international level as well. She was a major contributor for England from 2006-2010, appearing in 29 matches and netting eight goals in her time with the national team.
Sanderson and her teammate Joanna Lohman, who will also play for United Women this summer, recently founded JoLi Academy which is a training center for young female soccer players in India.
