 Professional Experience and Honors: 2005: In his sixth season with the Kickers, Burke earned Supporter’s Choice MVP honors last season after finishing the 2005 campaign fifth on the team in scoring with three goals and four assists for 10 points. Fourth on the Kickers all-time assists career list with 24, Burke appeared in 31 matches during the 2005 season, starting 23 for 1,991 minutes. Two of his three goals this season were game-winners and he earned USL First Division Team of the Week honors on May 17th for two goals in two wins over Virginia Beach and Atlanta and again on June 14th for his assist in the 1-1 tie against Atlanta. 2004: The experienced midfielder notched three assists in 26 games played this season. With 20 assists overall, Burke is the Kickers second all-time career leader in assists and is in the top 10 career leaders in Kickers games played (130). 2003: Mike started 17 of the 23 matches he appeared in during the 2003 season. He was second on the team in assists with six. His speed and creativity up the right sideline gave Richmond an added dimension in 2003. 2002: Burke appeared in 34 of the Kickers 37 games, notching two goals and four assists for 8 points. 2001: In his first full season as a Richmond Kicker this crafty and speedy right-sided player tallied 4 goals and 5 assists overall (3 goals and 5 assists in league play) in 31 games played. Burke, a right midfielder, showed flashes of brilliance through his technical ability and early flank service. 2000: Mike was drafted 41st overall (fourth round) in the MLS Superdraft by D.C. United. He played in 7 games, starting 4 for D.C. After being released on June 2nd by United, he and was signed on June 15th by the Dallas Burn. After playing in two games with Dallas for a total of 41 minutes he was released on June 30th. Burke joined the Kickers a day later and tallied 3 goals and 2 assists for 8 points in 16 games played. The former Loyola College standout was also named to the A-League team of the week on 7/24/00 (week 16). 1999: With the Charleston Battery of the A-League, Burke was named the club’s most valuable player and team offensive player of the year. He finished second on the team in regular season scoring with 6 goals and 6 assists for 18 points. 1998: A-League Rookie of the Year, Burke started his professional career with the Jacksonville Cyclones and was acquired by the Charleston Battery in a late season trade. Named to the All A-League second team, Mike scored in nine consecutive matches during the 1998 season and was also the third leading scorer in the league.
College Experience and Honors: Burke played for two years at Loyola College. He played in every game those two years and earned First Team MAAC Conference honors.
Other Experience: Burke trained with Deportivo Cali in Colombia in 1997 and with Nottingham Forest in England in 1998. In January, Burke was selected to the U.S. Under-23 National team Pool, and was selected MVP of the 1999 Umbro Select Classic in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. | |
