 | Profile: A highly touted prospect fresh off a superlative career at Penn State University, Severs enters the pro ranks having already built a highly impressive profile. The 5-10, 175-pound point producer scored 38 goals and 90 points in 85 games (2001-2004) with the Nittany Lions, leading the team in scoring for three straight years from 2002-2004. His best season came as a sophomore in 2002, when he scored 17 goals and 37 points and earned an Honorable Mention nod on the College Soccer News Division One All-American Team. His litany of honors includes three Mid-Atlantic All-Region selections (2002-Third Team, 2003-Second Team, 2004-Second Team) and three Big Ten All-Conference picks (2001-Second Team, 2002-First Team, 2004-Second Team). Severs was also the Big Ten Rookie of the Year in 2001, when he played with current City Islanders Captain Derek Potteiger. He also enjoyed great success at Ocean City High School in his hometown of Ocean City, N.J., where he was a two-time Philadelphia Inquirer Player of the Year. During that time, he was a member of the Region 1 Olympic Development Program, the Adidas Elite Soccer Program, and the U.S. U-20 National Pool teams. With 159 career goals, he came within two scores of tying the New Jersey scoring record set by former U.S. National Team star Tab Ramos. Severs spent the summer of 2004 with the PDL’s Reading Rage, scoring five goals and 11 points in 12 games (1,044 minutes). One of his goals came in Reading’s 5-1 loss in Harrisburg on May 30. Most recently, Severs was one of 66 college seniors invited to participate in January’s Major League Soccer Combine in Carson, Calif. | |
